The Iconic Puzzle Game Couldn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — A New Category May Address This Issue

Each time a significant honors show nears, there’s always a clamor for introducing fresh award types to recognize overlooked contributions and fill the passions of followers dedicated to specific genres.

Another commentator has already made advocating for terror-themed awards. That would be fantastic. Equally deserving are strategy board titles, which is someone's personal cause. Yet I need to apologize in advance if I try to elbow in front because like all dedicated enthusiasts, I possess a compelling case backing this proposal remains most pressing and significant. This is the request: We need a category for puzzle games.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Classifying creative works isn't exact; opinions vary greatly, and it will always generate discussions and end in fuzzy definitions. It's understandable that film award organizations don’t do it. However, it represents an essential concession in the world of video games, which are so diverse they hardly constitute a single creative category.

For the full spectrum of gaming accomplishments to be recognized, while allowing diverse titles to have a chance for representation, classification by type becomes crucial.

Present Award Structure

The major gaming awards offer these genre categories for Action, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Between them, these six categories actually cover many game types, allowing placement for numerous titles.

Not so for logic-based experiences. There’s simply nowhere to accommodate them. Consider three of this year’s best games, all very different: the architectural riddles in a particular game, intense tile-matching of another game, thought-provoking social scenarios in another game. Which classification works among existing types? Nowhere, that’s where.

The Representation Problem

Numerous examples exist outstanding logic titles published annually lacking appropriate categories in entertainment awards, unless they happen to qualify for categories like Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested independent game categories.

  • A renowned logic title got overlooked in any category during that awards season
  • Another creative title was excluded that year
  • Well-received sorting experience got ignored recently
  • Only a few puzzle games managed to sneak into niche award types

Significance of Puzzle Games

Frequently they represent small games, yet the craft behind logic titles carries substantial weight. Famous handheld logic titles stand as most engaged experiences in the world and have been for over a decade.

The famous puzzle experience challenges popular creative games for the title of most purchased experience; it additionally competes for best game of all time. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks within interactive entertainment, and they are in conversation with diverse game types.

Proposal and Rationale

Logic titles wouldn't face that issue. One could readily select a field of five engaging, different, qualified experiences annually without trouble — or rather, with difficulty, given the need to exclude many worthy titles.

To emphasize again, these include experiences without proper classification at major gaming awards. Brain-teaser creators function at the demanding boundary of video game design, developing some of essential manifestations within interactive entertainment. Similar to film action specialists, they warrant appreciation. Let’s not keep them waiting decades.
