The accused confessed to 17 offences at Leicester Crown Court on Friday

An individual who laced treats with tranquilliser and distributed them to minors at a summer camp in Leicestershire has pleaded guilty to sexual offences against two boys both nine and ten years old.

The defendant was arrested after eight children and an older person became sick at the location in mid-summer.

The 76-year-old, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, confessed to a total of 17 charges when he stood at the courthouse on the end of the week.

Yet, he disputed one particular crime he was charged with, which was against a nine-year-old boy.

Ruben was remanded in custody ahead of a further hearing on late November.

'Treat game'

The prosecutor, prosecuting, outlined Ruben's offending to the judicial body.

She explained his victims were under-privileged children who were staying at a summer program which he managed.

The defendant played a "treat game" with the children, Mrs Prior stated, in which he would go into the sleeping quarters when they were settling down and ask them to eat sweets "as quickly as they can".

She stated to the judge Ruben had played this game with the young males "for many years", and children had earlier experienced illness the next day.

She stated Ruben had been able to explain this for many years as the children being "overstimulated by activities", until his family member had concerns in recently.

The legal representative added: "Recently" his stepchild had worries about what was going on, with valid cause.

"They decided to examine in the individual's items."

The legal counsel stated materials including baby oil, Vaseline and syringes were discovered, and his stepson contacted the law enforcement about his suspicions.

She said the man continued to play the "treat game" with six youngsters that night - July 26th - and they were all sick the following morning.

"Authorities" had not gone out by that time," she continued.

The oversight body, the investigative body, had stated that it was examining Leicestershire Police's handling of the situation.

Mrs Prior said the youngsters were unable to walk properly due to their condition, so the family member notified the law enforcement once more.

She explained the defendant then engaged in the "treat game" in a area of five minors.
